Overdose Response Teams

Overdose Response Teams (ORT): A Community Response - First responders are on the front line in combating the opioid epidemic. The American Medical Association reported that the United States experienced over 90,000 fatal drug overdoses in 2020. Communities are coming together to create an efficient response to counter these increasing numbers. Establishing an effective program to prevent drug overdoses require a coordinated effort between law enforcement, first responders, mental health/substance abuse providers, public health, and community partners. ORTs are a multi-agency, harm reduction response unit that delivers support and person-centered services to individuals in the community who experience a non-fatal overdose. ORTs objective is to combat overdose occurrences, save lives, and promote public safety.
