Pastor Matt Johnson wanted more. He was already running a sober recovery program from his Suncrest United Methodist Church in Morgantown when he contacted Karen Coburn, the Fletcher Group's Outreach and Engagement Specialist for West Virginia. "I'm not sure she knew what she was getting into," says Johnson. "But from that moment on we've been moving at warp speed—much quicker than anyone could have expected.

WICAP in Idaho

Led by the Western Idaho Community Action Partnership, a task force of rural healthcare providers and non-profits in Payette, Idaho is taking the first steps toward developing recovery housing for the homeless and addicted in southwest Idaho. “The Fletcher group has been extremely helpful,” says WICAP Executive Director Heidi Caldwell.

"Having a job helps you build a foundation," says Craig Dean, Case Manager at the Recovery Trail halfway house in the rural town of Sevierville, Tennessee. "It not only helps people pay the bills, put food on the table, and take care of child support. It also builds self-worth and a sense of accomplishment.”

New Foundations, a nonprofit transitional housing provider with 11 facilities serving rural communities in Ohio and Kentucky, provides fully furnished move-in-ready sober living options for those in recovery. Known for its size, level of support, and emphasis on accountability, New Foundations nevertheless needed help.

SMART in Virginia

People the world over feel compelled to help others overcome the same challenges they’ve overcome. That impulse seems especially powerful in the recovery community. One good example is Leon Richardson who rehabbed the first time at 17 and nearly three decades later became a resident at a Piedmont Recovery Residence in Martinsville, Virginia that he now oversees as Program Manager.

Never Alone Recovery Support Services on the Flathead Indian Reservation in Pablo, Montana stands out in many ways. "But the big difference," says Executive Director Don Roberts, "is that we heal as a community, with our families, the people we know, the people we grew up with, the people we love. The faith-based, privately funded Beneath The Shade women's recovery center just outside Dover, Ohio isn't the most likely setting for secular, science-driven recovery. "In the beginning we were just a bunch of church ladies praying together, with no idea how to get started," says Board Member Traci Hooper.
